Football Insider reports that Tottenham will target cost-effective signings in January rather than another big-money window, and a supporter has been at the gates since eight on a day when nothing is happening.

A Tottenham supporter has taken a report that the club will seek value for money in January at its word, and arrived outside the stadium on Wednesday morning with a trolley.

The Herald understands the man read the Football Insider account on Tuesday evening, in which it is reported that the club have no plans for another big-money window and will instead pursue cost-effective targets. He did not read beyond the word cost-effective.

They said bargains. I've got coupons.

The club are bottom of the Premier League and winless after five games, and are due to face Manchester United this weekend. The supporter does not consider this a coincidence. In his view a team in that position is exactly the sort of customer who responds to a good offer.

He has positioned himself at the main gates, where he has been monitoring the forecourt since eight o'clock. Nobody has come out. Nobody has gone in. A pigeon was briefly interested in the trolley.

The Herald notes that the club brought in ten new players in the summer, a figure the supporter describes as a bulk purchase and therefore, by his own reasoning, a reason to expect the next order to be smaller.

Staff were not available for comment on whether the club accepts coupons. A member of the public passing on the way to the bus stop said the man had been standing there for some time and was holding up well.

The trolley remains at the gate.
