CaughtOffside reports, citing Spanish sources, that Tottenham are interested in Atletico Madrid forward Giuliano Simeone, whose €500m release clause compares with a Transfermarkt value of about €40m, and the tape was unrolled at ten past nine.
A Tottenham man spent Wednesday morning on the forecourt of the stadium unrolling five metres of tape measure, after reading that Tottenham are interested in Atletico Madrid forward Giuliano Simeone and that the club will not entertain offers below his €500m release clause.
The Herald understands the interest originates in reports from Spain, which state that Roberto De Zerbi is keen to add attacking depth ahead of the January window. The story was carried by CaughtOffside on Wednesday evening. It adds that the 23-year-old signed a new contract in January 2026 running until June 2030, and that Transfermarkt values him at roughly €40m.
The man set one centimetre against every million euro. At that scale the clause runs the full five metres and the valuation is forty centimetres, which he marked with a bulldog clip borrowed from the office.
You can see it from here. That's the gap. Forty centimetres, and then all of that.
He confirmed that Manchester City and Manchester United have also reportedly explored the terms of a deal, and placed two further clips at the far end of the tape to represent them. A delivery driver walked around the arrangement twice and was not asked for a view.
The report adds that Spurs could continue monitoring the player's progress before deciding on a formal approach. The man has therefore begun monitoring the tape, and said at noon that there had been no movement in either direction.
He has also worked out that the difference between value and clause is €460m, and has placed a tin at the end of the tape for contributions. By press time it held a button.
It is understood the tape will remain in place until a second source comes forward.
The clip marking the valuation was blown over at 11:15am and again at 1pm, and was replaced each time with no change to the figure.
