Gary Neville told Sky Sports he expects Tottenham to push towards sixth to eighth place within a couple of months, despite a winless start that leaves them 19th on three points.

A Tottenham season ticket holder arrived at the stadium forecourt on Tuesday morning with a cardboard advent calendar and a flask, having read that Gary Neville expects Spurs to climb the table.

Mr Neville, speaking on Sky Sports, said he would not call it certain but believed Tottenham would "gradually push up towards top six, eight in the next couple of months". He cited the performances against Manchester United and Aston Villa, and the coaching of Roberto De Zerbi.

The club is currently 19th, winless after six, with three points. The supporter has taken the forecast at face value and the calendar at its word.

The calendar has twenty doors, one for each place in the Premier League table. He has prepared it himself, working from the bottom up, and opened door nineteen at 9:10am.

It's only a matter of opening them in order. Neville's said it's coming. I'm just getting ahead of the paperwork.

Behind door nineteen, our correspondent can report, was a small piece of card. The supporter described this as a sound start and said door eighteen would be opened once Spurs had earned it.

He has calculated that thirteen further doors will be needed to reach sixth place, and that this leaves him roughly one door a fortnight if the understood timetable holds. He has marked Christmas on the back of the box in biro.

At 10:40am he was seen checking the touches in the opposition box figure, which stands at 182, against the calendar. The two did not appear to be related.

The flask is still half full.
