Soccer Facts on X reported that Tottenham and Coventry City have scored 25 Premier League goals each in head-to-head meetings, ahead of Monday night's fixture at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and no outlet added a twenty-sixth.

A Tottenham man sat down to breakfast on Sunday and learned that his club and Coventry City have each scored 25 goals in their Premier League meetings. By the end of the second slice he had learned it four more times.

The figure originated with a statistical post by Soccer Facts on X, which set out that Coventry hold eight wins, Tottenham seven, with three draws. The post was, in the opinion of this newspaper, a post.

The first website to carry it called the record remarkably even. The second, working from the first, called it dead even. By the third, the two sides were fiercely contested, a description that sits oddly beside a sequence of draws and narrow wins but was not challenged.

It's 25 each. Twenty-five each. That's not nothing, is it. That's a rivalry.

He repeated the number to the toast rack, which had no view. By the fourth website the parity had acquired an extra layer of intrigue, and by the fifth it was a historical balance waiting to be tilted, though the goals remained at 25 apiece throughout.

The Herald has read all five pieces against one another. Each contains the same eight, seven, three and 25. Each mentions that the match is on Monday night and that Roberto De Zerbi's side are looking to climb. No piece contains a twenty-sixth fact.

The man has since left for work, saying the number was understood to be important, and that someone should look into it.

The toast went cold at 25 minutes past eight.
