A report says Roberto De Zerbi must make a Mateus Fernandes decision with James Maddison due back against Coventry, and the Herald can confirm it contains one set of facts and five headlines.

A Tottenham household learned before nine on Tuesday that Roberto De Zerbi has a Mateus Fernandes decision to make, having read the same news five times in five places.

The original report, published on Monday, states that Fernandes has played at least 60 minutes in two of Spurs' six games, has started three Premier League matches, and has played a full 90 only in the 2-0 loss to Newcastle United. It adds that James Maddison, who dislocated a shoulder on Matchday 1 against Brentford, is expected back against Coventry.

The first website to repeat it called the matter a decision. The second called it a dilemma. The third, a selection headache, and the fourth, by approximately 8:15am, a selection crisis. The fifth described it as a defining moment for the midfield.

That's four now, and it's the same Newcastle score every time.

The Herald has examined all five versions side by side and can report that no new information was added at any stage. The Newcastle result appears in each. So does the £85 million figure. Maddison's return, described in the original as obvious, was by the third version inevitable and by the fifth undeniable.

Lucas Bergvall, whom the original calls incredible against Manchester United, is mentioned in all five, as is the suspension of Rodrigo Bentancur. Neither fact has been developed, questioned or moved to a different paragraph.

The householder has since formed a view, which is that De Zerbi should find room for both Fernandes and Maddison. This is, to the word, what the first report suggested.

He is now waiting for the sixth version.
