Former Juventus goalkeeper Emanuele Belardi told Tutto Juve the club should make Guglielmo Vicario's loan permanent, and the option is reported to stand at €8m.

A Tottenham man spent Wednesday morning on the stadium forecourt rehearsing a farewell wave to Guglielmo Vicario, after a former Juventus goalkeeper said the Italian club should make the loan permanent.

Emanuele Belardi told Tutto Juve that, even if Vicario is no Buffon or Peruzzi, he would say yes to a permanent deal. The Herald understands the option stands at €8m, and that Vicario has kept three clean sheets in six appearances for Juventus, conceding five.

The man read the remark on his phone at 7:40am and regarded the matter as settled.

He said yes. In Italian, in an interview, to a proper website. You don't come back from a yes.

It was put to him that the loan is for the season and that the option has not been taken up. He described this as a technicality and moved a bollard six inches to give himself more room.

Our correspondent observed three distinct waves. The first was formal and from the shoulder, the second was one-handed with a nod, and the third was a long, lingering version intended for the car park. Each was delivered to a locked turnstile, which did not respond.

Reports add that Juventus have a contract ready for Vicario running until 2030. The man has entered 2030 in his diary as the date by which he must have decided how he feels about it.

A passer-by with a pushchair asked whom he was waving at. He said Vicario would be along shortly, then corrected himself and said Vicario had in fact left in the summer.

He will repeat the wave on Thursday.
