Bazoumana Toure Spurs Interest Is Passed Around Breakfast Table Until Impressed Becomes Raid Under Way

Spurs Web reports, citing CaughtOffside, that Tottenham have watched Newcastle's £42m winger Bazoumana Toure, who is 20 and contracted until 2031.

A Tottenham householder has spent the first part of Thursday establishing that Spurs have watched Newcastle's Bazoumana Toure, a fact that was true at the start of breakfast and has been restated, at increasing volume, ever since.

The story, as first carried by CaughtOffside and then by Spurs Web, holds that the 20-year-old has scored twice in five appearances since his £42m move from Hoffenheim, and that Tottenham and Aston Villa have both watched him. It adds that Manchester United and Arsenal are also interested. It then adds, in the same paragraph, that there have been no formal approaches.

By the second website, the household understands, Tottenham had been impressed. By the third, the club's attention had been captured. The Herald can confirm that the watching, the impressing and the capturing all refer to the same watching.

Considering a raid, they said. A raid. On Newcastle. Again.

The word again was supplied by the headline, which links the move to the £100m paid for Sandro Tonali in the summer. Nobody at the table asked how a transfer from the summer had come to be an earlier raid, and the toast continued to cool.

By the fourth outlet the Herald counted the paragraph about Newcastle being relaxed about the player's future, and found it had been moved up to the second line, where it was read aloud once and not mentioned again.

Our correspondent notes that no new information was added at any stage. The player is 20, the contract runs to 2031, and the number of formal approaches remains the same as it was before anyone sat down.

The householder has since asked whether anyone has seen the marmalade.
