The Evening Standard reports that Spurs hold matching rights on Will Lankshear, who has 10 goals for Middlesbrough this season, and the clause is read aloud to the front seats of a southbound bus.
A group of Tottenham supporters occupying the front three seats of a London bus has reached a formal position on the matching-rights clause attached to Will Lankshear, after the Evening Standard reported that the forward has scored 10 goals for Middlesbrough.
The clause, which allows Spurs to equal any bid Middlesbrough accept and to finalise a deal ahead of rival suitors, was read aloud from a phone by the man in the window seat. He read it twice, the second time more slowly, for the minutes.
The chair, a season ticket holder in a waterproof jacket, called the meeting to order at the top of the stairs. Quorum was established when a woman with shopping agreed to be counted as an observer.
Matching rights means we can match. It does not mean we have to. I want that on the record before Seven Sisters.
The Standard notes that the Championship forward is 21, was sold in the summer for a fee that could rise to £20m, and that Erling Haaland is the only other player in the top four divisions with as many this season. The meeting noted all three points and had little to add to any of them.
A second item, the 20 per cent sell-on clause, was deferred to the next stop after the man in the window seat lost his signal in the tunnel and had to start the paragraph again.
The motion was carried on a show of hands, with one abstention from a passenger who confirmed he was only going to the retail park. The chair thanked members for their time and rang the bell.
The next sitting will be held at the same stop on Friday.
