A fan blog's five takeaways from Tottenham's 3-1 win over Coventry, which lifted Spurs off the bottom of the Premier League, call Sandro Tonali the metronome in midfield, and the metronome now at the gate is wooden and has no batteries.

A Tottenham man has placed a wooden metronome on the low wall beside a stadium gate and set it to sixty-six beats a minute, after reading that Sandro Tonali was "the metronome in midfield" during Tottenham's 3-1 win over Coventry.

The Herald understands the instrument was carried from a loft in a carrier bag on the 41 bus. The man has not yet established what a metronome is for, only that someone has been named as one and the role appears to be vacant on non-match days.

The remark appeared in a fan blog's five takeaways from the game, in the second sentence of the Tonali section. The piece also covered Maddison's opening goal, the striker, Gray, Kudus and Marmoush. He has read the Tonali section four times and the other four sections once each, quickly.

It says setting the tempo. Somebody has to be on the tempo. It's a quiet day, so I'm doing it.

The blog went on to say Tonali's consistency was becoming increasingly important. The man has taken this as a technical instruction and has tightened the weight twice, then loosened it, then returned it to the original position and written the number on his hand.

A pigeon arrived at approximately beat forty and left at beat forty-one. No other callers have been recorded. A man with a clipboard crossed the forecourt at 11:20 and was not addressed.

Asked whether the arrangement would continue until Saturday, the supporter said he would "see how the spring holds", and added that he intends to get to Maddison's goal "after the metronome".

The metronome ran down at ten past four.
