TEAMtalk reports that Brentford would demand more than £60m for Tottenham target Kevin Schade in any mid-season sale, and the Herald can confirm the figure was also £60m at every site that followed.

A figure of more than £60m for Brentford forward Kevin Schade, first reported by TEAMtalk, was in circulation across at least four websites by the time a Tottenham man had finished his first slice of toast. It was the same figure at each of them.

The original report states that Brentford would demand more than £60m for any mid-season departure, that the club are under no pressure to sell, and that contract talks have been opened with the player's representatives. His current deal runs until 2028.

The Herald has read all four accounts in order. The first calls the fee a firm asking price. The second calls it a significant valuation. The third describes Brentford as digging in, and by the fourth the number has acquired a stance.

It said sixty million on the first one and it said sixty million on the last one. They just sounded more sure about it.

The Herald understands that no outlet in the sequence added a source, a quote, a deadline or a second fee. One did add a tweet, which had already appeared on the other three.

The man was asked what he now knew that he had not known at 7:10am. He said that Brentford were very serious about it, a position the report does not state and which he arrived at on his own.

By the time the kettle was refilled, the story had been confirmed as monitoring, then as interest, and was last seen in the group chat being described as a situation. The toast was cold.

The figure remains more than £60m.
