Spurs Web reports that Tottenham were right to pass on Jhon Duran, the £71m Al-Nassr striker, in January, citing a podcast remark relayed by Goal.com, and a supporter has since vetted the forecourt.
A Tottenham man spent Wednesday on the stadium forecourt carrying out background checks on everyone present, after reading that the club had dodged a bullet by passing on Jhon Duran.
The report, published by Spurs Web, states that Tottenham were offered the Colombian striker in the January window, that Fabrizio Romano said the club had considered replacing Randal Kolo Muani's loan with him, and that a podcast remark relayed by Goal.com shows the club were right to decline. It concludes that clubs should check a player's personality before greenlighting a signing.
The man, who holds no position at the club, took this as general guidance. He arrived at 9am with a clipboard, a flask and a lanyard of his own making, and began at the turnstiles.
If it's good enough for the recruitment people it's good enough for the forecourt. You can't just let anyone stand near a stadium without a reference.
By 10.30 he had questioned the man cleaning the windows, a delivery driver and two pigeons, the second of whom was asked to confirm his previous address and declined to answer.
The Herald understands the turnstile attendant supplied two references from memory, one of which was a glowing assessment from the attendant himself.
The supporter has asked that his findings be treated as provisional, pending a reference from a previous forecourt, which he is currently attempting to locate.
The clipboard has been returned to the kitchen drawer pending a decision on the gate.
