Gus Poyet told the club website that captaining Uruguay could take Rodrigo Bentancur to a different level at Tottenham, and the stadium's eight turnstiles were addressed on Thursday, a full two days before the trip to Old Trafford.
A Tottenham man delivered a team talk to the stadium's turnstiles on Thursday morning, having read that captaincy can take a midfielder to a different level.
The Herald understands the address followed remarks by Gus Poyet, the former Tottenham midfielder and assistant coach, who told the club's official website that Rodrigo Bentancur had taken responsibility to an incredible level while captaining Uruguay in the absence of Federico Valverde.
Mr Bentancur flew back from India, where Uruguay played a friendly on Tuesday. The supporter travelled eleven minutes by bus, and was visibly moved by the distance.
He wore an armband fashioned from a bicycle clip and addressed all eight turnstiles in numerical order, pausing at number five, which he described as "the one that sticks".
Experience, lads. That's all it is. You turn when it matters.
The turnstiles, which were locked and have no recorded view on the matter, did not respond. A cleaner passing with a trolley confirmed the talk lasted nine minutes and used the word experience four times.
Spurs' fifteen internationals return to Hotspur Way in groups from Monday to Thursday, leaving Roberto De Zerbi little time to prepare for Manchester United on Saturday. The supporter said he will not be travelling, as the talk was always meant for the group.
Turnstile four has been asked to step up.
