Sky Sports displayed the message 'Sorry, this blog is currently unavailable' on its live page for Saturday's Premier League game at Manchester United, timestamped 16:33, and invited readers to try again later.

A Tottenham man has concluded that Saturday's Premier League fixture at Manchester United has been postponed, on the strength of a single sentence on a website.

The sentence, which appeared at 16:33 UK time on the Sky Sports live page for the game, read: 'Sorry, this blog is currently unavailable. Please try again later.' The Herald understands it was the only content on the page.

The man read it at his kitchen table, put on a coat, and travelled to the stadium, which is in North London and was not hosting the match. He arrived at the main gate and has remained there since, in the manner of a person awaiting an official announcement.

If the blog's gone, there's a reason. They don't just take a blog down. Somebody's made a decision.

He has refreshed the page eleven times by the Herald's count and nineteen times by his own, and says the discrepancy is the sort of thing that would be cleared up if the blog came back.

The page also listed, in a menu above the message, football, F1, cricket, rugby union, rugby league, golf, boxing, NFL, tennis, NBA, racing, darts, netball and MMA. The man has so far declined to take a view on whether these are also postponed.

At press time he had taped a note to the railings reading 'BACK SOON', which he describes as provisional, and was advising passing dog walkers to try again later.

The gate remains shut, as it was before the blog went down.
