James Maddison praised Wilson Odobert on Instagram stories for his rehabilitation from an ACL injury, and a Tottenham man has responded by sitting outside the stadium, which is not where the rehabilitation is taking place.

A Tottenham man arrived at the outside of the stadium shortly after nine on Wednesday morning to keep company a footballer who is, according to all available reporting, somewhere else.

The Herald understands the journey followed a message James Maddison posted on Instagram stories for Wilson Odobert, who is in the final stage of his rehabilitation after an ACL injury sustained against Newcastle in February. Maddison praised the 21-year-old for his work away from the public eye, and referred to dark days and an empty training ground.

The man read the words empty and away from the team once, on a phone, on the 07:52. He then identified the emptiest place he knows, which is the stadium forecourt on a non-match day, and went there.

Somebody ought to be sat here. It's empty. That's the whole point of the message.

He has brought a folding stool, a flask and a firm sense of purpose. At intervals of roughly ten minutes he says keep going in the direction of the turnstiles, which have not so far responded.

Maddison also shared the line that how you do something is how you do everything, and the man has taken this to heart. He placed the stool square to the kerb, poured the tea in one unbroken motion and checked the flask lid four times before sitting.

A passing member of stadium staff informed him that the training ground is a separate site. The man thanked him, said that was rather the point, and asked whether there was a closer empty building he might also sit outside.

He has stayed on. The stool is still there.
