A Tottenham man has begun hosting a networking breakfast at the main gates of the stadium, on a non-match day, after learning that Xavi Simons has enrolled on a business course at Harvard.

Simons, who is recovering from the ACL tear he sustained in April, confirmed over the weekend on LinkedIn that he has been accepted onto the Crossover Into Business Program at Harvard Business School. The programme describes itself as semester-long and pairs professional athletes with MBA student mentors. Reports suggest he is expected back fit in the new year.

The Herald understands the man read the announcement twice, then a third time in the voice of someone who had been meaning to upskill. He arrived at 8:15am with a trestle table, a flask, a folding chair and thirty-six blank cards he had cut from a cereal box.

It's all about the ecosystem now. Everyone's gone corporate. I'm not going to be the only one outside the ground without a mentor.

By nine o'clock he had exchanged cards with two bollards and a passing postman, who accepted his out of politeness and was later seen holding it at arm's length. Our correspondent was handed one describing him as Head of Forecourt.

The man has set the term at a twelve-week semester, with a half-term to coincide with the international break. He has appointed himself a mentor, understood to be a neighbour who once spent a day on a spreadsheet.

Harvard's programme has previously enrolled NBA and NFL athletes, as well as the tennis player Victoria Azarenka. Asked about the rest of his cohort, the man said it was mostly him, at this stage.
