Supporter Hammers Second Stake Into Verge As Lewis Family Lift Spurs Holding To 89.06%
Desmond Parry · Chief Football Correspondent · Reading time: one pint
The Lewis family's stake in Tottenham has risen to 89.06 per cent from 88.30 after a £120m injection, according to the club's investor relations page, which also puts the Levy family trusts' share of ENIC at 25 per cent.
A Tottenham man has driven a second wooden stake into the grass verge outside the stadium, after reading that the Lewis family's stake in the club has risen to 89.06 per cent.
The Herald understands the first stake went in on Tuesday, shortly after the man learned the figure had moved from 88.30 per cent. He regards one stake as a position and two as a commitment.
The increase follows a £120m injection for working capital, bringing the sum put into the club over the past twelve months to £320m, according to the report he read twice on the bus and once more standing up.
They've increased their stake, so I've increased mine. That's how it works.
Our correspondent attended the forecourt at 10:40am on a non-match day. It was otherwise empty, apart from a groundsman with a leaf blower, who declined to comment and was not asked a second time.
The club's investor relations page states that discretionary trusts of which Daniel Levy and certain members of his family are potential beneficiaries own 25 per cent of ENIC, down from 27.38 per cent in June. The man says he has read that part too, and has marked off a quarter of the verge with string, as a courtesy.
He confirmed the portion remains available to anyone who wishes to match him, and said he would be monitoring the situation until about half past four.
The verge belongs to the council.
