Ledley King Backs Van de Ven As Captain And Supporter Begins Managing The Group Outside Stadium

Ledley King, the club ambassador, told Chris Cowlin that Micky van de Ven was the right choice as Tottenham captain, and the stadium was closed to the public on the day a season ticket holder acted on it.
Ledley King, a club ambassador, has told Chris Cowlin that Micky van de Ven was the right choice as Tottenham captain, and a season ticket holder on the High Road has acted on the remark with immediate effect.
The man, who is not captain of anything, arrived outside the stadium shortly after nine on a non-match day with a strip of tape fixed to his left arm. He began, by his own account, leading by example.
The Herald put it to him that Mr King's remarks concerned a professional footballer. The man replied that Mr King had also said the next role was to manage the group, and that he had read the whole thing.
The group, on inspection by our correspondent, consisted of one pigeon, a council employee emptying a bin, and the man himself. He has been managing it for six hours, chiefly by walking ahead of it.
He said you put fires out. There haven't been any, so I'm told that's going well.
At intervals the man was observed sitting on a low wall by the turnstiles to recover, a quality Mr King praised in Van de Ven, and then rising to walk the perimeter at a steady, visible pace.
Asked whether he had harboured doubts about the captaincy, given the departure of Cristian Romero for Atletico Madrid, the man said he had not, and that he had been saying it since August.
The pigeon declined to comment and the council employee said he was only doing the bin.
At the time of going to press the group remained one pigeon.
