ESPN Brazil, as relayed by Spurs Web, says the two Turkish clubs have opened talks over a January deal for Richarlison at £8.4m, with the transfer window still two and a half months away.

A Tottenham man has begun excavating a three-foot trench along the stadium forecourt after reading that two Turkish clubs have started groundwork on a January deal for Richarlison.

The report, attributed to ESPN Brazil and carried by Spurs Web, states that Galatasaray and Trabzonspor have held talks behind the scenes. It does not specify the depth of any groundwork, or who is expected to dig it.

It says groundwork. Somebody has to do it. I'm not having Istanbul turn up and find nothing prepared.

He arrived at approximately 8:15am on a non-match day with a borrowed spade, a flask, and a laminated copy of the fee, £8.4m, which he has propped against a bollard for reference.

The Herald understands Tottenham were reported to want between €20m and €25m in the summer and are now said to be ready to accept €10m. The man has marked out ten equal bays on the tarmac, one per million euros, and has so far dug the first.

The transfer window does not open for two and a half months, a point he acknowledged and described as plenty of time to get ahead of it. The stadium was otherwise empty, apart from a man hosing a step and a pigeon, which has taken an interest.

Asked whether the talks were ongoing, he confirmed that they were, and that he was now ongoing too.

By dusk the trench stood at eleven inches.
