Ex-scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Tottenham will regret selling Will Lankshear to Middlesbrough for £10m, and the ticket office shutter had been down since the morning.

A Tottenham man attended the stadium ticket office on a non-match day to lodge formal regret over the sale of Will Lankshear to Middlesbrough for £10m, following remarks by ex-scout Mick Brown.

Mr Brown told Football Insider that Tottenham will regret losing the striker, who has been scoring in the Championship since his move. The Herald understands the man read the comments twice at a bus stop, concluded that regret had been formally announced, and decided someone ought to be present to receive it.

The ticket office was closed. He has therefore posted the regret beneath the shutter in an envelope addressed to "The Hierarchy", and has taken up a position on a folding chair directly opposite.

Somebody has to be regretting it, and I'm not convinced anybody is. I'll do the first shift.

Mr Brown said that at some stage the club would have to admit a mistake. The man has taken "some stage" to mean this week, and has issued himself a clipboard on which he records regret at fifteen-minute intervals. Readings to date are described as moderate.

A passing steward confirmed that no regret had been received by the club. The man asked whether this could be put in writing, and was told it could not.

He was advised that Middlesbrough is some distance from N17. He said he was aware of this, which is why he had brought a flask.

He intends to remain until regret is acknowledged or the car park closes.

The car park closed at six.
