EuroFoot reported on X that Bournemouth's Alex Scott, a Tottenham target and boyhood Spurs fan, called facing Luka Modric for England surreal, and a father of two read it five times before leaving for work.

A North London father of two sat down at his kitchen table on Wednesday morning and read the same account of Alex Scott's meeting with Luka Modric on five separate websites. He established that it contained one remark.

The remark is understood to have originated in a post by EuroFoot on X. It states that Scott, 23, a Bournemouth midfielder and Tottenham target, grew up a Spurs supporter and played against Modric while representing England. Scott called it surreal, and a great honour.

By the second website the remark had been candidly shared. By the third it had become a milestone opportunity that brought a journey full circle, a phrase the father of two had not previously associated with a friendly of any kind.

By the fourth website it was a profound learning opportunity. No one at that website is known to have spoken to anyone.

It was surreal on the first one. I've had my breakfast and now it's a learning opportunity. Nothing has happened in between.

The fifth website restated the first, with a paragraph about the mood among supporters added at the end. The Herald can confirm that this paragraph also contained no supporters.

Our correspondent counted the new facts across all five reports and arrived at none. The adjectives, by the same count, rose steadily from the top of the table to the bottom.

The father of two then opened the first website again, to check he had not missed something.
